| I have a 1965 Ford Falcon 289 v8 3spd C4 Auto Transmission with the column shift and I'd like to change to a AOD transmission. Does anyone know what transmission actually works the best with the least mods? |

Well, I don't know specifics on the swap, but I'll kick in my 2 cents.
Since it's not a computer controlled tranny, it seems like it might be a good choice. I'd wonder (But don't really know) about which year AOD would be easiest, flywheel choices, crossmember details, length issues, or how well it would fit in a Falcon body. My son's 90 302 Bronco has one, & it seems ok in the small truck, so in the lighter Falcon it should be good. Since the tailshaft housing is different for the 4x4, measurements from it wouldn't be much help.
Make sure your 289 has 6 bellhousing bolts. Some early 65 289s had 5 bellhousing bolts & a lower profile to the back of the block that wouldn't bolt up to that later transmission. |

problem being is that the aod is not a direct bolt in. lokar now makes a adaptor kit t convert a aod to a colum style but its not cheap. aod transmission linkage is much much different than that of the c4 and c6.
and problem being is rebuilding aods are a bitch and should not be considered a performance transmission just a transmission with OD. |
