Howdy, I'm new to this forum. Have belonged to others, both Ranchero, and F-150. Just curious if anybody uses Comp-Cams or Redline break-in fluid for the Zinc and Phosforous. I have been told by the local ford racing parts and machine shop recommende it for flat-tappet cam engines of our vintage. It makes a compound calld ZDDP, which creates some type of ceramic-like coating on the cam. Apparently new oils don't have these additives, and not using it can cause a cam to grind away. I've heard that some people have used Rotella diesel oil, but even it now doesn't have enough ppm in it to satisfy the needs of my enging. So John at R&E racing here in Lancaster recommended using a bottle of either of the above additives every oil change to protect the cam. He has a '65 Barracuda he uses it in every oil change. Cheap insurance if it works.
Just curious if anybody else had heard about it. I am NOT a scientist, so just checking to see if anybody else has heard of this, or... is it just snake oil??
Thanks, Bearpaw. _________________ 1965 Ranchero, 289, 4V, Wimbledon White, Red Interior, Black Carpet |
